Play the 40 card game online (Thuruppu 40)
The 40 card game is the six-player version of the Kerala trump game, played with the 3s added to the usual 28 pack, so the card points add up to exactly 40. Locally it is called Thuruppu 40 or just 40 (നാൽപ്പത്). Until now there was no proper way to play it online: Cheettukali is the first free table for it, right in your phone's browser.
How to play in five steps
- Get six cards. Six players, two teams of three sitting alternately. Cards are dealt three at a time, twice round.
- Call. Calling starts at the dealer's right: 20 to 29, then Honours (30) up to Honours 10 (40), or Thani. Every player gets one turn only, a call or a pass. After a call the other team answers first; the caller's partners wait and may only call Honours. Calling exactly 21 tells your partners you hold three Jacks (3s count as Jacks).
- Hide the thuruppu. The winning caller places one card face down. Its suit is the trump, and only the caller knows it.
- Play six rounds. Follow suit if you can. If you can't, ask for the trump and cut, or throw a card.
- Settle the coolies. Win or lose, coolies move between the teams. Holding 7 coolies means a flag.
What this table has
- Real Kerala house rules: Honours, Jodi (and asking for Jodi), Thani, the 21 Jack signal and the coolie return system.
- Computer partners who call, signal, ask for the trump and cut like real players. The opponents' level can be set to Easy, Normal or Hard.
- Undo for a wrong call, a 💡 Hint button, a play log and a "last round" view.
- Works offline once opened, and can be installed to your home screen like an app.
