Four players in two teams of two bid on their first four cards, the highest bidder hides a trump card, and both teams fight for the 28 card points. How to play 29 in five steps
- Deal four cards each. 32 cards, 7 to Ace. The order in every suit is J, 9, A, 10, K, Q, 8, 7.
- Bid from 16. The player on the dealer's right must open. Bidding goes round until the others pass.
- Hide the trump. The highest bidder places one card face down; its suit is trump. Four more cards each are dealt.
- Play eight rounds. Follow suit if you can. If you can't, you may ask for the trump to be shown; if you hold one, you must cut with it.
- Score game points. Make your bid for +1, fail for −1. Double, redouble and the Pair change the numbers. +6 wins the game, −6 loses it.
