2048 is a sliding number puzzle that is simple to learn and hard to master. Swipe (or use the arrow keys) to slide every tile in one direction. When two tiles with the same number touch, they merge into one tile with double the value. Your goal is to build a 2048 tile before the board fills up. How to play 2048 in four steps
- Swipe. On a phone, swipe in any direction. On a computer, use the arrow keys or W, A, S and D.
- Merge. Tiles slide as far as they can. Two equal tiles that collide become one tile with their total: 2 + 2 = 4, 4 + 4 = 8 and so on.
- Watch the new tile. After every move a new 2 (or sometimes a 4) appears in an empty square.
- Reach 2048. Make a tile of 2048 to win. You can then keep going for a higher score. The game ends when the board is full and no merge is possible.
Strategy tips
Keep your biggest tile in a corner and build the other tiles in a row beside it. Choose two directions (for example left and down) for most moves and use a third only when you have to. Avoid swiping against your corner, because that can pull the big tile out. Plan merges two moves ahead.
