Minesweeper is the logic puzzle that came with Windows and kept millions of people busy at work and school. Uncover every safe square without hitting a mine. The numbers tell you how many mines touch each square, and a bit of careful thinking tells you where they are. Play it free here with touch, long-press flags and three board sizes.
How to play Minesweeper in five steps
- Dig a square. Tap a square to reveal it. Your first dig is always safe, and it often opens a large clear area.
- Read the numbers. A number shows how many of the 8 surrounding squares contain mines. A blank square has no mine neighbours, so its neighbours open automatically.
- Flag the mines. When you are sure a square is a mine, flag it with a long-press (or right-click, or Flag mode).
- Clear around numbers. If a number already has that many flags next to it, tap the number to dig all its other neighbours at once.
- Win. Uncover all the safe squares. Hit a mine and the game is over.
Levels
Easy is a 9×9 board with 10 mines. Medium is 12×14 with 28 mines. Hard is 12×18 with 45 mines. Your best time for each level is saved on this device.

Questions
Is the first click in Minesweeper always safe?
Yes. The mines are placed after your first dig, and never on or next to the square you dig.
Do I have to guess in Minesweeper?
Sometimes, especially on Hard boards. Most squares can be worked out by logic, but some positions need a guess.
How do I flag a mine on my phone?
Long-press the square, or tap the Dig mode button to switch to Flag mode and tap squares to flag them.
What does a number mean?
It is the number of mines in the eight squares touching it, including diagonals.
