2048 Strategy: 7 Tips to Reach the 2048 Tile
2048 is easy to play and hard to win, because each move is easy but the position gets worse quickly if you swipe without a plan. These seven habits help most.
1. Choose a corner and stay loyal to it
Keep your highest tile in one corner, for example the bottom left, and never let it move out.
2. Use two main directions
If your corner is bottom left, swipe mostly down and left. Use right only when you have no other safe move, and use up almost never.
3. Build a snake
Place tiles in descending order along the bottom row: 512, 256, 128, 64. Then they can merge in a chain as the row fills.
4. Keep the bottom row full
A full bottom row cannot slide out from under your large tile when you swipe left or right.
5. Merge small tiles before large ones
Many small tiles clutter the board. Clearing them leaves room for new tiles and keeps merges available.
6. Think two moves ahead
Before swiping, ask where the new tile can appear and whether it will block a merge. Do not make a move just because it merges.
7. Use Undo to learn
When the board gets tight, undo and try a different sequence to see why it went wrong. It is the quickest way to learn.
What if I get stuck?
If you are forced to swipe against your corner, choose the direction that moves only a small row, and swipe back next turn to restore the big tile. This is risky but sometimes necessary.
