In Golf Solitaire every card on the table is visible from the start. That makes it a planning game, and a few habits can take strokes off your score.

1. Plan the whole run

Before your first move, trace how far you can go: on a waste 5, can you play 6-7-8 or 4-3-2? Pick the longer line.

2. Keep the columns even

Cards at the top of a long column are the hardest to reach. Prefer moves from the longest columns so that nothing gets stuck behind four other cards.

3. Kings end runs

Nothing goes on a King and Aces don't wrap. Play a King only when it's the end of the line anyway, or when it frees a card you badly need.

4. Mind the Queens

A Queen can only go on a Jack or a King's neighbour, and since nothing can go on a King, Queens often become the last cards left. Try to clear them with Jacks while you can.

5. Choose your direction

From the middle ranks (6, 7, 8) you can go both ways. Choose the direction that uses cards from columns you need to shorten.

6. Count your score as you go

Golf is played over nine "holes" (deals) in its classic form. Don't worry about one bad hole; aim for a low average, which Cheettukali tracks for you.
