Hearts Passing Strategy
The pass is the first decision of every Hearts hand, and often the most important.

The usual suspects
- Q♠, unless you hold four or more lower spades.
- A♠ and K♠ with short spades: they catch the queen.
- High hearts: A♥, K♥.
Make a void
Passing all your clubs or diamonds (if you hold three or fewer) lets you discard bad cards when that suit is led.
Keep your low spades
They protect you. Never pass the 2♠ to 10♠ unless you're voiding spades entirely.
Direction matters
- Left: the player you pass to plays right after you, so dangerous cards come back at you less directly.
- Right: you pass to the player who plays before you; they can lead suits you're now void in.
- Across: a neutral middle ground.
- No pass: play what you have, carefully.
